How to book the best hanok stay in Seoul
We’ve compared the best hanok stays in the Bukchon Hanok Village as it’s one of the best neighbourhoods in Seoul for this experience, with beautifully preserved buildings, historic alleyways, and easy access to the main cultural attractions.
Unlike large hotels, most hanoks only have a few rooms or are rented our as entire private homes, so they often sell out months in advance, especially during peaks seasons like spring and autumn. Some hanoks are also listed on booking platforms like Agoda or Booking.com, but are shown as sold out for long periods. If you book through Agoda or Booking.com, most hanoks will also offer free cancellation for a certain period in case you need to change plans. Why stay in a hanok in Bukchon Village
Since November 2024, access to the most scenic tourist spots (the “Red Zone” area around Bukchon-ro 11-gil) in Bukchon Hanok Village has been restricted to the hours of 10:00am-5:00pm. Tourists entering the area outside of those hours may face a fine of KRW100,000 (approximately $100AUD). However, this restriction does not apply to residents and guests staying in the Bukchon Hanok Village, so staying within the area is one of the only ways to truly beat the crowds.
A hanok stay in Bukchon Village also makes a trip to Seoul feel much more immersive as you can experience the traditional atmosphere of old Korea. Many hanoks have retained the original architecture and offer private courtyards and gardens, making them a peaceful retreat despite being at the centre of the city’s historical attractions.
Staying in the Bukchon Hanok Village also places you within walking distance of Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changgyeonggung Palace, as well as many boutiques, cafés and galleries which make for an unforgettable trip to Seoul.
How to get to Bukchon Hanok Village
Bukchon Hanok Village is located in central Seoul. If you’re arriving at Incheon airport and going straight to your accommodation, you can arrange for a private airport transfer in advance here.
Anguk Station is the closest subway station, which you can reach on Line 3. It is located around 5-10 minutes walk from the Bukchon Hanok Village.

It is designed as a private residence and is much larger than other hanoks, with multiple bedrooms and family suites available.
